How Artificial Intelligence (AI) is enhancing wearables?
At the turn of the 21st century, back in 2004, Wearables were one of the latest trends in digital technology. At that time, Apple was the biggest player in this game. They introduced Apple Watch that took technology by storm. There was a time when people got bored of tracking counts. Then, decisions on making wearables smarter got on the round. Now, the addition of AI into this technology took the digital context to the next level. However, countless AI-enabled wearables are invented every day now. This charming digital transformation helps us live better and healthier lives.
The continuity in the advancement of wearable hardware is a never-changing trend, what also continues to evolve are algorithmic abstracts regardless of industry and field. The market for AI-led wearables is increasing steadily. If we see statistically, around 117 million wearables were shipped in 2017 that is 10.3% of 2016 shipments. Well, they enhance the functionality and people take advantage of this great space. However, three of the important factors that are responsible for AI-enabled wearables enhancement are;
- Wireless connectivity
- AI algorithms
- Wearable hardware
Unsurprisingly, today’s world is working on this wireless connectivity due to the tech-game players like Apple, Xiaomi, Huawei, and Fitbit. They are investing a lot in making smart solutions and leading the storm.
When we think of wearables, our mind clicks on smartwatches. This sector is much more than smartwatches. Smart glasses, smart ring, smart headset, and smart glasses, etc has taken this sector to the level at which it is now.
AI technologies such as machine-learning, computer-vision, gesture-recognition, and even emotional-recognition, are making a convenient environment by feeding these innovatory algorithms to help expand the opportunities for these new devices. Here, I mentioned two of the most evolving AI-led wearables.
AI-based lifestyle wearables:
Lifestyle wearables such as smartwatches, smart headphones, fitness trackers, and body sensors offer seamless user-experience and improved connectivity along with lighter and less bulky hardware. Wearables such as wristwear, eyewear, and ear wear. Are making lifestyle amazingly surprising. For example, AI-based features on Samsung gear-2 dual-core 1GHz processors have evolved wrist wearable greatly by offering wireless connectivity to the mobile phones and easy-swipe tech.
Wearables in healthcare and safety
Apart from the levels of convenience, wearables made their road to the health industry by improving their hardware and algorithmic approach. In the wearable market, AI-driven applications are;
- Those who have visual or listening problems can take good advantage of these machines. Natural voices help the visually impaired from one place to another.
- Epilepsy suffering people can get AI advanced machines with real-time monitoring to get the unusual patterns of the coming seizures.
- Children with autism spectrum disorder can get monitored through machine learning wearables. This technology can identify the emotional arousals and stressors of children.
AI has touchpoints on multi-functionalism with vision, hearing, sense, smell, taste, and touch. However, these user-friendly, secured, and customized AI-driven wearables have taken the road from nice-to-haves to must-haves. Just as smartphones and PCs have become our daily life must-haves. Intelligent wearables are going to be much more than that.
